Mercy Heart opened its doors to patients on Feb. 16, 2010. The foundations for Mercy Heart were laid in 2008 when members of a community-wide healthcare collaborative met and agreed that a medical and dental clinic was needed to serve the uninsured. Citizens in Rockdale County worked to lay the groundwork to make this vision a reality.
Mercy Heart is a Christ-centered ministry that began with a small group of citizens committed to providing not only for the physical needs of its patients, but also for their spiritual needs. This core group worked over the next several months to garner support within the community and build a strong coalition of volunteers and board members.
In March 2009, Conyers First Baptist Church donated the use of a residence along Ga. Highway 20 for the health clinic.Community volunteers donated many items and worked over the next several months to transform the house into a clinic equipped with three exam rooms, one dental room and a basic lab.
Mercy Heart relies on the generosity of many community partners, including Rockdale Medical Center, Hedrick and Dodson Family Dentistry, the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, among many others.
